A little bit more about our transition plans for 2016.
As the years have passed, and the birth of the internet, Kelleys Island has become a popular destination for travelers from all walks of life including (but not limited to) families, boating clubs, fishing parties, ecology groups, day trippers and of course ‘Craft Beer Enthusiasts.’ This has produced a traffic flow of two types. First, on weekends and summer events, the island traffic in bars, streets, and some yards can lose sight of a quant laid back little town, that most people seek. Second, the above mentioned groups must share common space. Sometimes those groups have contrasting experience; therefore, minimizing their vacation time and money. This led us to the decision to turn the Kelleys Island Brewery into a private rental and tap-room. By reserving your own space, the above transforms into minimum service time, conversing with good friends, and drinking quality beverages at 50% of the cost while enjoying a beautiful view of Lake Erie. And don’t worry about missing out on the downtown fun, you can come and go anytime, use social media to stay in contact, and invite extra guests if you choose. Now that’s quality ‘Island Time.’
Renting the Kelleys Island Brewery?? How does that Work?
It is simple and affordable. The rental fees are determined by the number of people on your guest list. The rates are as follows. $15 per person. There is a 35 person minimum and 120 guest maximum. This fee covers the following services. Party goers will have full access to the bar and inside dining rooms, clean bathrooms, outside bar and defined outdoor area (within the split rail fence 40’ X 40’). These areas will be maintained by guests and host. Check in time is prearranged and check out time is 10:00 PM. No exceptions please. Prior to the event, the host will be provided with wrist bands, sign in sheets and the parking layout and will be responsible for proper distribution to party attendants to ensure traffic flow and guest identification (no party crashers). There is no client access to the kitchen or to the brew room without prior written permission. Hot and cold water and electric is provided at the inside and outside bars as well as multiple inside electric outlets. Grills may be permitted with prior written approval.
Here’s a little bit more about the tap room…and how that is going to work.
On the days that the brewery is not hosting a super cool private party, we are pleased to open the doors to the public and offer our beers as well as select spirits and wines. Also, we are happy to announce our tap room and rental venue will be run by former employees Katie Mack and Jordan Walters. How fun will that be!!!! A great view, great brews and service with a smile. And on the days that the tap room is closed we are pleased to announce that you can enjoy our beer at the Caddy Shack and the Island House. More announcements to come.
Our History for new friends to the Kelleys Island Brewery.
It began in 1960, by Pattis father (Jay) and grandmother (Ruth) as the Dairy Isle, located next to the Neuman’s ferry line it was the perfect feeder business. Travelers could enjoy a hand pulled ice cream cone while waiting for the boat (yummmm!) So as the years passed and the island became more popular, The Island Café was born in 1988. It served breakfast and lunch to day travelers, campers and residents. In 1999, craft beer lovers started coming and the demand for more than breakfast and lunch had become apparent, so Patti started the Kelleys Island Brewery (cheers to her ! ). In 2001 Patti’s boyfriend (now husband) Doug became the brew master and with the help from his brother Ed started producing some of Lake Erie’s finest brews. After the ferry’s closing in 2002 and the opening of the Venture Resort in 2008 (August), the Kelleys Island Brewery has become a favorite venue for weddings, reunions and landmark birthday celebrations while maintaining a full service restaurant and brewery.
Bringing us to the 2016 chapter of our history. So, keeping up with the times; We have decided to highlight our commercial venue opportunities to our supporters and have a great tap room available for the days that we are not hosting a cool island party .In addition we will be filling growlers to go, and selling 5 and 15 gal. kegs as well. There has also been talk about having “beer camps”.
We look forward to hearing from you to answer any party or Tap room questions you may have( we encourage early bookings for prime weeks ) and will keep you updated throughout the winter months as things progress Cheers, Doug and Patti ☺
